The weather may still be chilly, but the first hints of the season popped up along with the crocuses this weekend. Circuit Ave was not exactly bustling, but pretty busy compared to its typical winter traffic. A couple of early openings brought people (especially kids) out to Oak Bluffs, and Shibori had its grand opening, the tie-dye boutique becoming the first new store on island.
The familiar music emanating from the Flying Horses, had kids dragging adults as fast as possible to the carousel this weekend. The popular attraction will be open again for school vacation week. Dairy Queen threw open its doors on Tuesday and there was an all day line. Following suit, Ben & Bills became the first Circuit Ave ice cream shop to open for the year, to the delight of kids and adults alike.
Meanwhile in Vineyard Haven, designer Stina Sayre celebrated the season with a fashion show at her harborside boutique. Her pretty feminine clothes just seem to shout "Spring has arrived" and an appreciative audience hit the dressing room after the Saturday evening show.
Finally, the disc golf season officially opened with an all-day tournament in the State Forest. Loads of people - participants and spectators showed up on a chilly Saturday to socialize and get involved in the very Vineyard sport. Once, the flying discs come out, can summer be far behind?
