Susie Bowman led a number of demos about the Osprey or Fish Hawk.
For the fifteenth year in a row, Felix Neck put on a festival to welcome back the island's most welcome seasonal resident. As an osprey couple watched from their perch on a pole, kids played educational games and made nature crafts, while adults enjoyed music by Ballyhoo, lunch and sweets, and learned more about the island's celebrated bird of prey.
After nearly facing extinction a few years back, the osprey, or fish hawk, is making a comeback. Each spring the birds migrate from their winter home in South America and return to their individual pole-top nests, which are a familiar sight around the island. Felix Neck, a Mass Audubon sanctuary, throws an annual party in their honor and invites the public to learn more about our native raptors.
