Martha's Vineyard International Film Festival

It kicked off Thursday evening on the rooftop of the Mansion House where, with a sweeping view of Vineyard Haven Harbor as a backdrop, party guests enjoyed live music, food and coctails and the opportunity to meet some celebrated, and some up-and-coming filmmakers.

Opening night flick The Owl and the Sparrow from Vietman was a sell-out, as were many of the Festival's offerings this year.

On Friday, another capacity crowd gave up a perfect beach day to check out an afternoon screening of Sean Penn's Into the Wild. After an evening chock full of choices from around the world, filmgoers headed over to Che's Lounge for a very cool Middle Eastern themed party, complete with hookahs and red tent. Kate and Ben Taylor were on hand, as were many of the visiting filmmakers.

On Saturday, Vineyard Haven again was alive with Festival Fever, as local musicians Ballyhoo entertained around town and the line at the Capawock Theater remained practically a constant throughout the day.

One of the highlights of the Festival was the English documentary Deep Water. Another sell-out, the film featured a Q&A afterward with director Louise Osmond which shed even more light on a fascinating, much forgotten event from the 60s. Check this film out.

Post-screenings, the crowd headed over to the Oyster Bar in Oak Bluffs to dance to the West African world-fusion beat of Mamadou. The Plum crew was on hand talking to Hayden Christensen and Doug Limon, among others. We'll have these interviews and more video very soon.

Sunday, the films wrapped up at six and festival goers were treated to a closing party at the Black Dog Beach. Beetlebung Steel Band entertained guests who cruised between the beach, the bar on the dock and the tallship Alabama. Appropriately, Mother Nature came through with a little drama of her own in the form of a picture perfect sunset. What a weekend!
