It started off with an oyster demonstration and tasting and finished up with two very special gourmet theme dinners at private homes. The first Martha's Vineyard Annual Harvest attracted world reknowned chefs and foodies from all over to an island known for its appreciation of great food and wine.
Organized by the Edgartown Board of Trade and hosted by various Edgartown locales, the Festival was a celebration of fine dining that included demonstration/talks on olive oil and fine cheeses; oyster boat rides; cooking demonstrations and discussions of various varietals of wines and specialty cocktails.
Celebrity guests included Chris Schlesinger - chef/owner of East Coast Grill in Cambridge and author of The Thrill of the Grill and License to Grill, the Barbecue Bible's Stephen Raichlen, Jody Adams of Rialto, wine historian Nina Wemyss and Ian Just of Boston's Zygomates and Sorriso.
Said Edgartown Board of Trade president Maggie White "It was a great first year and will give us a good base to build on." After the success of September's International Film Festival, this foodie fest proves once again that the MV season has really been extended well into the autumn. The organizers were very excited with the turnout and the level of all the vendors. Says White, "This really reinforces that a fall event could be well attended and very successful."
