Last Night/First Day

Celebrate the Vineyard way with the traditional Last Night/First Day celebration starting at 11 am on New Years Eve and taking place all around Vineyard Haven. Purchase buttons at the Chamber of Commerce, Mocha Motts, the Bunch of Grapes, Alleys General Store and Island Entertainment. $10 before 12/26, $12 after. Buttons good for admission or discounts to all events except the fireworks cruise. Here's the rundown.

Monday December 31, 2007

11am-3 pm SKATE - Ice Skating at the MV Ice Arena; $2 with a button. $3 Skate rentals.

11:30 am MOVIE - Disney’s Alice in Wonderland at the Katharine Cornell Theater. Presented by the MV Film Society. Free plus one kid under 10 for button holders or $2 general admission.

12 noon WELCOME CENTER OPENS - at the former Murray’s building on Main Street.You can pick up buttons and schedules here and hang out and warm up.

1 pm LUNCH WITH THE TISBURY FIREFIGHTERS - Baptist Church Hall, William St. Food for sale until 6:30.

2-4 pm FAMILY DANCE -Outerland’s "Dance-o-Rama" comes to the Hebrew Center, Center St. Adults and kids

3–8 pm TRAINS AND TREES - A fabulous interactive Holiday display at the Fourway Carriage House Building, Franklin Street. Kids can play with an extensive electric train collection while adults will enjoy the 24 foot tree loaded with lights.

4–7 pm GOLF Island Cove Mini Golf is open on State Road. Discounted games with your Last Night, First Day Button.

5-9 ACOUSTIC JAM - ":Picking Party" features Corinne deLangavant, Don Groover and friends from Squash Meadow, Ballyhoo, Kevin Keady, Joe Keenan, Tristan Israel, Nantucket’s Phil Austin and more. Baptist Church, corner of Spring St. and William St.

5 pm-5:45 pm BELLY DANCE REVIEW - A Last Night classic at the Katherine Cornell Theatre.

5-6 pm GOSPEL - Jim Thomas' Spiritual Choir at the Sali MV Building, upper Main Street, across from Owen Park.

6-8:30 pm DANCE - MV Ballroom Dance Group teaches Salsa, Tango, Swing, and Texas 2-Step at the Hebrew Center, Center St.

6 pm-6:45 pm, JOHNNY HOY & THE BLUEFISH - Local favorite blues band at the Katherine Cornell Theatre.

6-7 pm KAHOOTS Local alternative rock band at Sail MV, upper Main Street, across from Owen Park.

6 pm to 1 am BREAKFAST - at the Art Cliff Diner. Portion of the proceeds benefits the Tisbury Ambulance Association.

7 pm-7:45 pm IMPact - Young persons comedy improv at the Katherine Cornell Theatre.

7 pm MOVIE - Pirates of the Caribbean, the original, at the Capawock Theater. Button holders free, $5 general admission.

7 - 8:45 pm, MAYNARD SILVA & FRIENDS at Sail MV, upper Main Street, across from Owen Park. Old school blues by the master.

7:30 pm FIREWORKS CRUISE - Watch the display from New England Fast Ferry. Board at the SSA dock at 7:30. $45 ticket includes gourmet treats, sweets by Bernadette Cormie, dancing and the best view of the fireworks display over Vineyard Haven harbor. Music by the StingRays. Cash bar.

8 pm-8:45 pm IMPERS - Teen comedy improv at the Katherine Cornell Theatre.

9 pm FIREWORKS - over Vineyard Haven Harbor. Kaboom!

10:00 ROCKIN' NEW YEARS EVE - at Outerland. Doors open at 10. Dance to tunes by DJ Jeff Damon, then boogie til 2 to Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish. Sweets and chocolate bar. Watch the ball drop on giant HDTV and enjoy complimentary champagne. Shuttle bus leaves from the SSA lot at 9:45, taxis available at club for return trip. $20, $15 with button.

January 1, 2008

12 noon CraZy ZaNy Hat Parade - Make a hat, win a prize. Decorating for children begins at the Ambulance Barn at noon. Coco the Clown leads the parade departing from the Stop and Shop lot at 1.

1 pm RAFFLE DRAWING - for a get-away to Boston including roundtrip airfare on Cape Air, dinner, and overnight stay in Boston. Tickets sold at all venues on New Year’s Eve – 5 for $5. Winner does not have to be present.
