Ghost Tours for Halloween

These kids weren't afraid of ghosts, but apparently Sam Bungey of the Gazette was.

Holly Nadler calls herself "the repository for Vineyard ghost stories." Ever since the author had her book Haunted Island publshed in 1994, people have been approaching her to share their own tales of haunted houses and other supernatural encounters. She's always enthusiastic to share these stories. For Halloween, Holly has resurrected her popular summertime Ghost Tours. She leads walking tours of the three major towns focusing on hauntings and tales of the supernatural which, according to her, abound on the island. On a recent Ghosts of Oak Bluffs tour, Holly led a group of about 20 (including six kids) through the Campground and Ocean Park with a stop at the OB Harbor and the Island movie theater - where a spectral cinephile may be in residence. This expert storyteller shared personal as well as second- hand tales of murders, drownings, arson and ghosts of both the malevolent and mischievous variety. One little girl was a little too frightened to enjoy the tour, but the older kids and adults loved it.

Spirits and hobgoblins are given a rest for winter. The Ghost Tours will resume next summer.
