Cooper Gilkes at Coop's Bait and Tackle reports that fishing for bass slowed down some during the day this week. Bluefishing remains pretty good and the fluke are continuing to bite well. Anglers are catching Bluefin near Chatham in the 80-150 lb. range.
Janet Messineo of Martha's Vineyard Fishing Charters and Taxidermy says big stripers are still being caught from the shore. She was on Chappy a couple of days ago and just as the sun was setting hooked into a 23 pounder on a popper. It is always exciting to see a fish over 40" come to the surface to hit a plug. An angler from Pennsylvania landed a 33 pounder just down the beach. That particular evening Janet landed 18 fish, all keepers. Lobsterville is still flyroders heaven. We have a prevailing SW wind and the conditions have been perfect for flyrod enthusiasts to chase both bluefish and stripers in the evening. The boats are doing well with huge Fluke.
Bluefish are keeping the daytime fisherman busy while it’s nighttime for stripers. All the inlets and bridges on an outgoing tide are producing nice fish. North Shore, South Shore, Unisland or Down Island, the story is the same. The fishing is fantastic!
