Fishing Report 6/12

Beach Bass

Captain Jaime Boyle of Boylermaker Charters says bass fishing has been off the charts this week with lots of topwater fish up to 40lbs. The 10 Hogy lure in white or amber has been the bait of choice on spin gear. 3-5” olive/white sand eel patterns have been producing for flyrodders. Bluefish have over run the hooter and rips south of the island. Jaime also spotted his first bluefin tuna the other day while bass fishing.

Janet Messineo of Martha's Vineyard Fishing Charters and Taxidermy reports that shore fishing has been really productive on the north shore from West Chop to Gay Head but confusingly slow on the south shore. Hundreds of seals are on the new island that popped up because of the breach, which could be the cause of slow fishing. The bluefish have disappeared on the Vineyard. She is focusing on the North Shore in a beautiful rocky spot that has been quite productive. The squid have arrived in numbers. Chappy is still off limits to 4WD. Wasque Point can be accessed from the parking lot and the board walk. The wind has come around SW which should help the fishing.

Steve Morris at Dick's Bait and Tackle says a lot of folks are fluke fishing with the season opening just a few days ago. There are some bluefish being caught at Chappy, and some nice bass being caught off the beaches at night.

Cooper Gilkes at Coop's Bait and Tackle weighed in a 12 pound fluke the other day. He says East Beach has slowed for bass as has Lobsterville. There are good tides at Lobsterville the next 4 nights which may turn fishing back on. The big bridge has some good bass on it and Lagoon Pond has been good for stripers as well.
