Janet Messineo of Martha's Vineyard Fishing Charters and Taxidermy reports that the fishing is finally improving.
The north shore of the Vineyard seems to be the place to target some bass. Many fish up to 30" are being landed at Lobsterville both on fly and conventional tackle. The best baits seem to be 5/8 ounce green needlefish and for flyrodders, black deceivers and sand eels. Fishing on Chappy might get complicated as the Piping Plovers are sitting on eggs and some of the beaches are now closed. Check with the Trustees of Reservations to find out more info.
Cooper Gilkes at Coop's Bait and Tackle says those fishing the big bridge at night are picking up some nice bass on squid as are those fishing West Chop with live bait and jigs on wire leader.
Steve Morris at Dick's Bait and Tackle says most of the big bass are being caught at night.
This Saturday night is the Rod and Gun Club’s 12th annual catch and release bass tournament, which is open to flyrodders only. Registration is at the high school on Saturday afternoon from 12-3 P.M. Fishing takes place from 7 P.M. until 2 A.M. with breakfast to follow. Last year over 1200 fish were landed!!!!
Check back next Thursday for a new report- Tee Clarkson
