In recent years the island has seen a number of dreams become reality - the Martha’s Vineyard Arena, MV Hospital, the new ferry, and the latest - a new regulation size baseball field. If you build it, they will come.Since the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School was built in the 1960’s, there has been only one baseball field of Major League size to serve the island. With High School Varsity, Junior Varsity, and recreation games to be played, and practices in between, a shortage of field time was a major hurdle to overcome. From the early days of the high school, baseball coaches have dreamed and worked towards a new field. The years of hard work and fundraising finally turned the dream into a new field this May. The local Martha’s Vineyard people made this all happen. Mom, Apple Pie, and baseball is Americana at its best. So put down yourcomputer game and play ball.
