Family Planning Art Show Top

Condom flowers set the stage for the annual Family Planning Art Show.

Three, count them three big art shows converged this past weekend, displaying work from virtually every artist on island.

On Thursday, the Memorial weekend art extravaganza kicked off with an opening for the three day Family Planning Art Show at the Ag Hall. They say "in spring a young man's thoughts turn to love" and, appropriately the annual show featured colorful spring flowers crafted from condoms throughout the hall. On opening night many patrons could be seen carrying these cheerful reminders from Family Planning at the packed cocktail preview party.

Another annual tradition, the Vineyard Artisan's Festival opened their season last weekend with their annual Memorial Day show featuring unique items from hundreds of local artists and craftspeople. The summer Festival starts up on June 11 and runs through Sept with shows every Thursday and Sunday at the Grange Hall.

New to the lineup was the Rising Tide Silent Art Auction at e'kaya Gallery. Rising Tide is a therpeutic equestrian center for kids with special needs, and one of their therapy ponies was on hand at the opening on Saturday. The exhibition runs through Friday and will be the last show at the e'kaya Gallery, which is closing after three years.
