Flying Into Spring

Did you know that all of the wooden horses of our famous carousel has a little trinket in each of its eyes? We found that out and much more this week, as we visited the Flying Horses carousel.

A sure sign of spring, the Flying Horses are loosed from their winter slumber and invite little riders during school vacation week. Plum headed down to the iconic carousel in Oak Bluffs this week to get a preview.

Chris Scott of the Preservation Trust filled Guinevere in on the history of the nation's oldest operating platform carousel, and reported on the number of rings that make their way into souvenir hunters' pockets each year. The carousel will be open every day April 21-27 and then on weekends until Memorial Day weekend when they go to seven days.

Also on board this week was Jill Belcher from the MV Hospital. The occupational therapist spoke to John about the hospital's Cancer Rehabilitation Program and how, with the imminent expansion in hospital services, they will be able to do even more for cancer patients right here on island.

Bob Tonti from the Vineyard Nursing Association (VNA) was up next, filling Guinevere in on how they have been able to provide a seamless transition for former patients of the VNS, who announced their closing recently. He also filled us in on the many services that the VNA provides.

We finished up the show with some musical entertainment in the form of an interview with Johnny Hoy and Jeremy Berlin and clips from their recent benefit show at the Ag Hall, and a segment from NY Plum's popular series Juan's Basement featuring up-and-coming sensations Vampire Weekend.
