The interior of Farm Neck's clubhouse is open and takes advantage of the spectacular panoramic views, but in July or August you're probably going to want to spill out onto the patio.
Who wouldn't want to include a couple of stylish horses in their wedding party?
The Captain Flanders property always photographs well, but I especially love it in the Fall with the foliage in full color.
I've been shooting weddings on the Vineyard for three years, and I've lived here most of my life. I love the opportunities that the island affords to capture lasting moments against artistic backdrops - ranging from sea to farm to lush gardens. Depending on whether you're opting for a spring, summer or fall wedding, I'll try to offer some advice on locations that take advantage of the richness of the Vineyard seasons.
June Brides
Edgartown is at its prime in June - with roses, day lilies and other spring flowers adding to the colonial charm of Martha's Vineyard's most historic town. The grand dame of Edgartown - the Harbor View Hotel and Resort - offers a variety of photo opportunities spotlighting the beach, lighthouse and gardens that Edgartown is known for. Late afternoon weddings works best at the height of summer, offering flattering light as well as cooler weather for the comfort of your guests.
Although July and August are the busiest months on MV, especially in the down island towns, there are still secluded spots just outside the hustle and bustle of downtown. Farm Neck is famous for their lush golf greens and their gorgeous perimeter of eye-popping hydrangeas. The height of summer is the time this hidden gem really shows its landscaping off best. A colorful wedding party strolling around the grounds on a picture perfect Vineyard summer day is a recipe for a real standout wedding portfolio.
Fall for the Vineyard
What could be more idyllic than a fall wedding in the Vineyard countryside? The light is perfectly soft this time of year and the cooler weather and stress-free atmosphere tend to put wedding guests in a relaxed mood (which is always helpful!) Up-island is the best location for foliage shots in the fall. The 1800s Captain Flanders farm is a dream setting for a somewhat casual September or October wedding. The peaceful backdrop - complete with pond, horses and Canadian Geese is heightened when the fall foliage adds that extra dash of color. I especially love to shoot in this Chilmark location when the wedding party's colors pick up on the Fall palette.
